ABSTRACT
Mastery goals, formerly referred to as ‘learning goals’ are associated with positive academic outcomes. This entry provides a definition of mastery goals and an example of a mastery goal and a mastery-focused classroom. Next is an overview of the historical conceptualisations of this goal type and how the definition of it has changed over time. Last, educational outcomes associated with this goal type are reviewed.
