ABSTRACT

This chapter marks the beginning of Part Three which deals with the planning and management of the sector. This is covered under seven areas, which could correspond to a GTAs departments; management of the GTA itself, regulation and control, research, marketing, product development, human resources development and public awareness. The chapter starts by summarizing overall strategy. It goes on to deal with the first three areas: GTA management itself, regulation and control and research. It then lists the objectives, results and activities for each of these areas. The chapter concludes with checklists for the tourism management information system (MIS) and tourism assets inventory.
