ABSTRACT
Therearesomethingswrongwiththesimplequarkmodeldiscussedinthe previouschapter.Thefirstisthattheconnectionbetweenspinandstatisticsis wrongforthesequarks.Thequarksmusthavespin112inordertoproducethe spin1/2and3/2baryons.ThuswewouldexpectthemtoobeyFermi-Dirac statistics,andwewouldexpectthegroundstateofthethreequarksystemto beans-wave,completelysymmetricundertheexchangeofthepositionlabels ofthethreequarks.ThiswouldleadtoanSU(6)representationcompletely antisymmetricintheSU(6)indicesofthethreequarks-whichisa[3]ora 20whichtransformsunderSU(3)xSU(2)as([2,1],[2,1])E9([3],[1,1,1]) or(8,2)E9(1,4)whichisnotwhatwewant.
