ABSTRACT
Preparing to initiate clinical studies with a promising new drug is a significant stage in the drug development process. By now, there has already been a significant investment in identifying an active pharmacologic compound, developing a stable formulation, and conducting the basic pharmacological and toxicological tests. Safety in animal models has been established to a degree that the pharmaceutical firm feels that there are sufficient data to begin testing in humans.
