In this chapter, we present various results for order statistics based on a random sample of size n from a standard exponential distribution. As mentioned already in Chapters 1 and 2, the exponential distribution plays a prominent role in analyzing many data sets obtained from life-tests, and the use of order statistics in this connection arises quite naturally. It is thus not surprising that over the last fifty years or so, this particular area of research dealing with properties of exponential order statistics has drawn the attention of numerous researchers. Here, we will attempt to provide a comprehensive summary of various developments that have taken place in this area.
