ABSTRACT

Introduction Landscape does not only provide the setting for a building and amenity for the occupants, but also an opportunity to enhance the ecological value of the site whilst ensuring that rainwater is carried away in an environmentally sensitive way. It is important to consider the external surfaces of the building as part of the landscape, particularly for a constricted site. For example, roofs, terraces and even walls can be landscaped and provide amenity value, ecological niches and an opportunity to attenuate rainwater run-off.
