ABSTRACT
Throughout history, poor people have been trapped in their villages by bad roads. Better transport helps increase prosperity through both trade and access to better jobs. People migrate to the growing towns which provide employment opportunities. This happened in Britain in the 19th century, and is happening in India and China now. In the growing towns people need transport to get around – public transport, bicycles, motorized two-wheelers and cars.
