ABSTRACT

Misery is exactly where the greater focus of creativity should be. Forget for the moment the more attractive glamour of new media industries or the latest icon building in a city centre. Finding imaginative solutions to day-to-day needs, human distress, thwarted ambition and crime and violence is a far more creative act. (Landry, 2006, p93)

This book has been dedicated to the proposition that violence and insecurity are complex and interrelated problems, but that creative solutions are being developed around the world, and it is possible to adapt ideas and inspiration from these creative projects to develop safer communities.
