ABSTRACT
Consistent with this, I do not believe that the route to decreasing parental control is for parents to free themselves of their investments in their children’s performance. As I argued earlier, by virtue of our evolutionary heritage, parents are inevitably bound up with their offspring. Parents, feel their children’s successes as their own, and they feel that their children’s mistakes reflect on them.
