ABSTRACT

Carl Allanrnore Murchison was born Dec. 3, 1887, in Hickory, North Carolina, to the Reverend Claudius Murat Murchison and Alice (Temple) Murchison. He received an Associate Bachelor's degree from Wake Forest University in 1909, before going on to Harvard to study for a year as a Rumrill fellow. Influenced by his father, a Baptist preacher, Murchison went from Harvard to the Rochester Theological Seminary, where he studied theology for three years (1910-1913), and then to Yale (1914-1916) for graduate study in psychology and philosophy.
