ABSTRACT
In the history of relations between science and the world of affairs there is a relationship of some standing that might be called the scholarly consultation. A scientist is asked by a client to look into a problem and tell what ideas for solution are suggested by the knowledge, new or old, in his discipline. The scholarly consultation is a complex event. The following elements, however, seem to be present in any substantive consultation.
