ABSTRACT
People make many assumptions about money and foster care. Many of the assumptions are simply wrong, or misguided. In this addendum we want to take an honest look at finances. It’s the elephant in the room. Do foster carers only do it for the money? Some do, most do not. To do foster care well you cannot do it for the money. Shouldn’t foster carers do the job simply for love of children? Absolutely not! To do so would be like asking school teachers to teach for the love of it, or veterinarians to do their work for the love of animals. But just how does the money thing work in foster care? Of all the issues, this is perhaps the closest to a taboo—something not to be spoken of. It is also the area where foster carers often face difficulties.
