ABSTRACT
The purpose of this paper is to consider the articulation of small and large social systems as an issue in the history of anthropological ideas. This includes anthropology’s increasing concern with the historical present, as well as implications for theories of anthropology and kindred disciplines. I assume that anthropology will continue to join with other social disciplines in dealing with the problems of world social transition. However one may define micro-macro articulation, it certainly refers to a set of social problems which anthropologists cannot solve alone.
