I first visited Switzerland in 2002, while I was still Director of Sustainability Services for KPMG in South Africa, in order to establish contact with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), headquartered in Geneva. I have since returned several times, for various meetings on sustainability and CSR hosted by the European Academy for Business in Society (EABIS), Net Impact and others. However, for this chapter, much like the last, I want to focus on two fascinating individuals I happened to interview in Switzerland, even though neither is Swiss. The first interview was in the lakeside city of Geneva with Simon Zadek, then still CEO of AccountAbility, and the second was in the skiing town of Gstaad with Muhammad Yunus, founder and then still CEO of Grameen Bank.
