ABSTRACT

I first visited Budapest in August 2003, when I presented a paper on ‘Corporate social responsibility and personal meaning in life’ at the European Business Ethics Network (EBEN) Conference. This captured some of the early findings from my PhD research (more about this in Chapter 22). I stayed, together with my academic colleagues from Nottingham University’s International Centre for CSR, at the fabulous Danubius Hotel Gellert, in the central district of Buda, with the River Danube on one side and a green hill on the other. The hotel (and my visit) is most memorable for its thermal pools, built in 1918.
