ABSTRACT

If you work in corporate sustainability and responsibility, as I have for 20 years now, ‘Shell in Nigeria’ is inevitably part of your lexicon, one of the case studies trotted out with regular monotony at conferences and cocktails around the world. In this, I am no different. As it happens, I have had a few personal encounters with the country and the company, which I will explore in this chapter. However, let me start with the infamous case itself — put some of the facts on the table, so to speak.
