The desire to improve patient care has been a driving force in the growth of integrative medicine in recent years. Integrative medicine as an approach addresses not only the physical, but also the social, psychological, spiritual, and environmental influences on health (Horrigan, Lewis, Abrams, & Pechura, 2012). The uses of hypnosis in addressing physical issues, so-called “mind-body” healing approaches, fit snugly into the integrative medicine paradigm because hypnosis is, by definition, a multidimensional approach that speaks to the whole person. An important underlying message in the last chapter was, “You’re more than your brain.” In this chapter, an important underlying message is, “You’re more than your body.”
