ABSTRACT
This is a catch-all term that is often used pejoratively to describe a range of economic policies. It represents a transfer of power from democratic institutions to the corporate sector, and from labour to capital, where globalised business is increasingly free of national constraints and accountability, and has the legal means to take on governments that get in its way, and where the individual is emphasised rather than their role in society.
