ABSTRACT
If the first officer on a ship disagrees with the course which his captain is taking, he can always reserve himself a place in the lifeboat. The first officer on an aircraft has no such option. He must resolve the problem and ensure his safety by other means; he must utilise verbal communication. This has given rise to frequent difficulty, and was discussed in Chapter 2 in relation to errors resulting from system interface mismatch.
