ABSTRACT

In 2014, I attended an ethics conference in Houston, Texas. Dr. Mary Gentile was one of the speakers at the conference. Being new to academia – having recently left the practice of law after more than 20 years – this was the first I had heard about Dr. Gentile’s work and her framework for addressing ethical issues. If you are unfamiliar with her work, her book Giving Voice to Values: How to Speak Your Mind When You Know What’s Right 1 and the website https://www.darden.virginia.edu/ibis/initiatives/giving-voice-to-values/are excellent sources to better understand her approach. Both of them provide detailed information about the Giving Voice to Values (GVV) framework, which is the framework I utilize in this book to address ethical issues in the legal sector.
