ABSTRACT
Everyone knows central cities have declined, some of them precipitously and disastrously. There is considerable truth in this image of city decline, but it is an exaggeration. City conditions and trends have been diverse. Here we emphasize the diversity, deemphasizing the uniformity in city decline.
