ABSTRACT
Hindu Law, 1 of which the law of succession forms a part, includes other areas of family life such as marriage, adoption, maintenance and guardianship. It is the personal law of Hindus as understood formerly under colonial rule, continuing to the present day. As such, it is the combination of principles of the Shastras as applied and administered by the colonial courts, the central and state statutes of both pre and post-independence India, and judicial decisions.
