ABSTRACT

In this chapter I explore more stories of working people, witnesses and victims of terrorism in a major city. These stories are different from the stories of mostly non-management employees and witnesses explored in the previous chapter in two key ways. First, most of the stories in the previous chapter – except for Owen’s story – were collected before the occurrence of crucial moments of terrorism in 2005. These crucial moments – the July 7 London bombings (7/7), the October 1 Bali bombings, and the Melbourne and Sydney anti-terror raids – had a significant influence on the stories explored in this chapter. Second, the witnesses that are the subject of this chapter were managers and business leaders responsible for the security of organizations, employees, public spaces and other people who live and work in the city.
