ABSTRACT

Now that we’ve covered the basics of single-axis and two-axes rigs, it’s time to kick it up to three-or-more-axes rigs, better known as 3D rigs. The idea of a flight envelope is discussed further in this chapter as a key restraint that needs to be understood by anyone designing or executing such an effect. The process of creating a deliverable and achievable flight envelope is detailed by showing how the process evolves through a series of common mistakes. Programming challenges unique to these kinds of rigs are discussed along with solutions to the most commonly faced challenges. Center-bound versus non-center-bound rigging schemes are also discussed, showing the pros and cons of each.
