ABSTRACT
The dilemma just mentioned haunts this chapter. Striving for the essence of money, theoreticians come to a point where it is no longer possible to deal with money as if it were a commodity. Sticking nevertheless to that position, academic economists reach a limit and are caught in a dead end. The situation calls for another analysis giving a chance to the idea of money as a device for coordination.
