ABSTRACT

Popularly known as Babasaheb, BR Ambedkar stands out for his relentless battle against caste discrimination. A child of his time, Babasaheb however transcended his historically given circumstances. Despite being a Mahar by birth who was a victim of caste-driven social prejudices, he rose to prominence by effectively challenging the hierarchical caste order justifying Brahminical hegemony. It was a sustained fight that spanned his whole political career which culminated in the creation of a democratic constitutional structure of governance following decolonization in 1947.
