ABSTRACT

The connection between the superego, guilt, and anality has been either in the center or the periphery of my attention the whole of my professional life, provoked by the material presented by the six-year old schizophrenic with whom I spent a summer supposedly babysitting. Following working with him, I did therapy with a post-partum psychotic woman who also presented this same combination of anal material. Some of what I have learned about the combination seems quite obvious. But some seems rather complex. I will begin with what seems self-evident, in the hope that it will shed light on the more complex.
