ABSTRACT
This book provides a detailed account of my interactions with the Timorese national leaders during my assignment in Timor-Leste from July 2002 to September 2006. In this period, the UN Security Council maintained, in succession, three peacekeeping and peacebuilding missions: the United Nations Mission of Support in East Timor (UNMISET), the United Nations Office in Timor-Leste (UNOTIL) and the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT).
