ABSTRACT

This chapter emphasizes the importance of the literature review to the dissertation. The literature review is typically written as part of the dissertation Chapter II, and requires students to read, understand, and synthesize a wide range of scholarly literature. The chapter outlines key steps necessary for achieving this end, including how to effectively search for literature as well as understand the purpose of the literature review. One way to move forward is through the bucket method, which enables students to categorize and synthesize relevant literature in a way that makes the most sense for the study. Finally, the chapter concludes with helpful tools and resources for writing the literature review.
