ABSTRACT

The chapter helps readers understand not only the purpose, but also the structure of the dissertation proposal. For students in EdD programs, the dissertation proposal typically represents the first three chapters of work, including the introduction to the study, the literature review, and the research design. The chapter focuses on the importance of writing a dissertation title that accurately reflects the study as well as what a typical dissertation proposal defense looks like. The goal of the defense is for the chair and committee to provide constructive edits to the document and enable the student to move forward with a robust, rigorous research study. The chapter concludes by outlining the specific contents of the dissertation Chapter I.
