ABSTRACT

Teachers of economics and business studies have an important role to play in the delivery of EIU both within economics and business studies and across the whole curriculum. The dual role for teachers of economics and business studies arises from the difficulties encountered by many non-specialist teachers in comprehending some of the EIU components. In particular, difficulty grasping some of the core economic concepts leads to speculation that EIU should be more visibly portrayed in business studies and economics courses. Some argue that the skills of economics and business studies teachers should be employed to cover the more difficult EIU concepts within economics and business studies lessons. In circumstances where no business studies or economics are taught, especially below key stage 4, assistance could be given with lesson planning or in the coverage of these key concepts in other curriculum areas or through personal and social education (PSE) programmes.
