ABSTRACT
Identity formation and the development of the self are key challenges in a time when the scope and complexity of our social relationships are expanding to an extreme degree, especially through the many contacts and interactions we engage in via digital media and the flood of information that washes over us every day. The rapid pace of information sharing is eroding our individual sense of time and space as stabilizing factors. Our body awareness and its ability to act as a sensory anchor for our identity formation are being undermined by the virtual spaces where we spend more and more time.
