When Brazil started discussing the possibility of holding a conference on sustainable development in the autumn of 2007, it was in nobody’s mind that such a conference could be a launching pad for a new global development partnership, one in which sustainable development is the basis for eradicating poverty,upholding human development and transforming economies. Such was the transformative role that Rio+20 played. Rio+20 represented a culminating point of decades of successes and failures of efforts aimed at defining a developmental pathway that reinforces the inescapable symbiosis between environment, human wellness and better standards of living.
