ABSTRACT

Orders had been issued on the 30th May for the 3rd, 4th and 5th Divisions (2nd Corps) to withdraw to the beaches and Dunkirk. The 50th Division was to fall back to the French defences on the Belgian frontier and, together with the British Base staff at Dunkirk, to come under the 1st Corps. These moves began to take place on the morning of 31st May.1
