According to ]acobs (1988, pp.2-6) the following physical conditions have to be fulfilled to enable the natural deveIopment of a tropical rainforest: • A reIativeIy continuous tropical temperature, with a small amplitude
• At least 1800mm rainfall per annum, evenly distributed throughout theyear.
