Introduction

In the United States, or at least in some parts of it, one may hear at times quite surprising statements about Catholics and Catholicism: Catholics are not Christians. They worship Mary. They follow whatever the pope says. And they eat fish on Friday. Unless one defines the words "Christian," "worship," "follow," and "they," in a unique fashion, these statements are all wrong.
