ABSTRACT
Prior to 1974, the South African film industry was characterized by an absence of formal controls on employment practices, a lack of regulated relations between technicians and producers, and a somewhat apathetic attitude toward the establishment of a set of production and esthetic standards by producers. This resulted in a conflict of interests between employer and employees.
