ABSTRACT

Each fall, all teachers at Napa Elementary School in Northern California are required to speak with families before releasing the rst six-week report card. The idea is to establish communication with the families early in the year and to make the families aware of any potential problems with their children at school. Some families come before or immediately after school while others come during the teachers' conference time. However, many families take advantage of conferences that are set up from to : p.m. on the rst Tuesday after report cards come out. A large number of families wanted to come during that time, so Mrs. Harris, an experienced second-grade teacher, had to set up conferences every 15 minutes.
