ABSTRACT
Introduction Frontier developments involve large-scale projects for resource exploitation. They are often in remote locations, where conditions are technically very challenging. They are characterized by advanced technologies, high capitalization and a high degree of uncertainty. Frequently, frontier developments are promoted on the basis that they will provide jobs in areas where unemployment can be very high. However, many frontier developments have also caused severe impacts on aboriginal peoples.
