This chapter introduces and links the several contractual approaches treated separately in following chapters in this book. The structures of the contract forms related to them are described in Chapter 4. Occasional reference has been made to some of the approaches in preceding chapters, while there is cross-reference between them in later chapters. The approaches fall into three groups for present purposes, although these are taken in a different order in the chapters to ease the detailed descriptive transition from one to another:
(a) Self-contained, supported by free-standing forms of main contract: Chapter 13: BPF/ACA Form of building agreement. Chapter 15: GCIWorks/1 Single-stage design and build contract. Chapter 16: ICE Design and construct contract.
