ABSTRACT

Introduction The two vignettes above are excerpts from students’ writing that focused on what and how they had learned through observation. In Vignette 15.1 the observer outlined her/his learning about observational skills, the child and relevant practice, and being a thoughtful and reflective learner. In Vignette 15.2 the observer detailed elements of observation that s/he found significant. S/he also acknowledged observation as a complex and sometimes ambiguous process that requires the observer to be acutely self-aware.
