ABSTRACT
Since the beginning of the nineteenth century Britain has witnessed a series of migratory streams, which have helped the country to constantly transform and reinvent itself. The mainstream
historians who have tended to ignore the 9 million or so people who have
moved into the country since c.1800 have therefore closed their eyes to an
important aspect of the country’s history, especially those working on the
years since the end of the Second World War.
