ABSTRACT
In the previous chapter, we discussed the perspective, which in sociology came to be known as exchange theory, which grew out of the behaviourist tradition in psychology. In sociology, it emerged as a critique of the functionalist dominance, which allegedly overplayed the signifi cance of structural factors at the expense of understanding the behaviour and actions of individuals.
