ABSTRACT

Conversely, self-help groups have an extensive networking and sponsorship program which extends beyond the confines of meetings. They permit groups of greater size than a psychotherapy group, charge no fee for participation, and provide members with the experience of democratic peer leadership. Self-help groups provide greater access to meetings than therapy groups which often meet once or twice per week. People who feel in need of interpersonal contact or who are at risk to resume substance use may avail themselves of a 1\velve Step meeting at virtually any time of day or several times a day if need be.
