In section 6 of the preceding study I found difficuIty accepting an argument of Chishohn's against the 'soft' determinist's equation of 'He can da X' with 'He will da X if he chooses to da X'. From the quotations I gave, it seems that Chisholm intends to demonstrate the non-equivalence of these statement-forms by supposing, with regard to a particular agent N, that

he did not choose to da X, iii N cannot choose to da X.
