ABSTRACT
The two most important medieval philosophers, Augustine of Hippo (354-430) and Thomas Aquinas (1224-1274), take different approaches to interpreting biblical morality, but both embrace its ideal of neighborly love and locate the true interests of individuals in devotion to God.
