ABSTRACT

A primary purpose of this study is to determine whether sexual experiences during childhood and adolescence have long-term consequences for adult functioning. The measures of adult functioning used in this study consist of th~ five scales from Hudson's (1982) Clinical Measurement Package (CMP) that were discussed previously in the chapter on methodology (see Appendix B for the scales in the questionnaire package). These scales are valid and reliable indicators of problems with self-esteem {Index of Self-Esteem or ISE), depression (Generalized Contentment Scale or GCS), marital discord (Index of Marital Satisfaction or IMS), sexual discord {Index of Sexual Satisfaction or ISS), and intrafamilial stress {Index of Family Relations or IFR).
