ABSTRACT

Another common stereotype associated with menopausal women includes the view of menopause as an emotional crisis or period of instability. The myth was recently portrayed in the popular movie, "Fried Green Tomatoes" in which one of the characters, who was approaching menopause, exhibited periods of emotional instability and irrationality. The solution to her problem was summed up by "getting her some hormones." What the astute movie viewer actually saw was a woman who was making psychological changes which were going to occur with or without the aid of hormones.
