ABSTRACT
Introduction D em and for movement is a by-product of population, city size and vehicular growth. The rapid increase in urban population in India has put an enormous strain on the street network of var ious cities. Urban population is expected to grow to 550 million by 2021 *. In addition, the number of urban centers with population in excess of one million is likely to reach 55 by 2021, from 33 during 2001, as shown in Table 1.
