ABSTRACT

An overview of the history and basic concepts of cinema. The chapter introduces some of the aspects of film production, and focuses on the formal features of film such as framing, editing, and sound. The chapter concludes with an introduction to some of the theoretical issues that define the study of genre, narrative, and representation. The aim is that even readers who have not studied film and are unfamiliar with film vocabulary, will be prepared by this chapter for the close investigations of films in the second part.
